About The Position

The Mental Health Worker supports inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric/behavioral health services under the direction and supervision of an RN, LVN, or Charge RN. The role assists licensed nursing staff with providing and documenting patient care, including help with activities of daily living. The posting also describes providing basic nursing care for adult and geriatric patients.

The Mental Health Worker supports unit operations and helps maintain a safe, clean environment for patients, visitors, and coworkers. As part of the interdisciplinary care team, the worker communicates pertinent patient information to the supervising RN, performs assigned clerical duties, and works within nursing standards, hospital policies, and applicable regulatory and accrediting requirements.

Requirements

• If working as a CNA, hold a current and valid CNA license issued by the state.
• If not a CNA, a minimum of one year of experience working as a Mental Health Worker in a hospital setting is preferred.
• Obtain BLS certification within 30 days of hire and maintain current certification.

Nice To Haves

• One year of prior mental health experience.
• Familiarity with medical and psychological terminology.
• A minimum of one year of experience working as a Mental Health Worker in a hospital setting if not a CNA.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed nursing staff with providing and documenting patient care under the direction and supervision of an RN, LVN, or Charge RN.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living.
• Support unit functions and maintain a safe and clean environment for patients, visitors, and coworkers.
• Participate as an integral member of the interdisciplinary care team and communicate pertinent patient information to the supervising RN.
• Perform clerical duties as assigned.
• Provide basic nursing care for adult and geriatric patients.
• Perform responsibilities in accordance with Nursing Structure Standards, hospital and nursing policies, and state regulatory and accrediting requirements.
