About The Position

Mental Health Connecticut (MHC) is seeking a full-time Residential Specialist for its Mental Health Waiver program. This role involves providing Recovery Assistant (RA) and Community Support Program (CSP) services to individuals in recovery, focusing on skill-building to maximize independence in their living environments. The services aim to assist individuals in achieving and maintaining the highest degree of independent functioning by addressing mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation needs.

Requirements

• Minimum of a related college degree or 2 years experience in human services/mental health field.
• Prior work experience with case management in community mental health/human services.
• Valid driver's license, auto registration, and insurance.
• Willing and able to drive a personally owned vehicle locally and within the state.
• May be required to transport individuals in personal vehicle.

Nice To Haves

• Certification strongly preferred, e.g., Recovery Assistant certificate.

Responsibilities

• Implements the treatment plan using skills lists, skill-builder toolkits, and curricula.
• Documents services provided using Electronic Health Record software and DMHAS databases (e.g., Sandata) for billing purposes.
• Teaches, coaches, and assists with daily living and self-care skills (transportation, nutrition, meal planning, housekeeping, dressing, personal grooming, financial management, shopping, leisure time, interpersonal communication, personal safety, first aid, problem-solving).
• Teaches recovery skills to prevent relapse (symptom recognition, coping, emotional management, relaxation, medication management, illness preparation).
• Assists individuals with appropriate dress and basic hygiene, provides supportive assistance and supervision, and offers short-term relief for caregivers.
• Develops self-advocacy skills for accessing natural supports and resources.
• Communicates about developing healthy habits, the importance of personal commitments, and adherence to appointments.
• Provides health and wellness education.
• Conducts group treatment for up to four persons focusing on ADL skills.
• Maintains a productivity rate of at least 90% of billable hours.
• Drives personally owned vehicle locally and within the state, potentially transporting individuals.
