About The Position

As a Mental Health Technician (MHT) at Chicago Behavioral Hospital, you will be an integral part of the treatment team, providing continuous care, supervision, and positive role modeling to patients across various age groups from preschool to geriatrics. Working under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, you will contribute to creating a therapeutic environment that fosters patient support and well-being. This role is a crucial member of a dynamic and compassionate healthcare team, positively impacting the overall treatment experience for a diverse patient population. Chicago Behavioral Hospital (CBH) is a cutting-edge 150-bed inpatient facility in Des Plaines, Illinois, dedicated to providing exceptional therapeutic care, prioritizing patient comfort and safety. CBH also offers an outpatient partial hospitalization program, ensuring continuous support while respecting the rhythm of daily lives, and emphasizes accessible care irrespective of one's ability to pay.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline
  • One year of related experience, with a knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness

Responsibilities

  • Accurately record vital signs
  • Exercise judgment in patient interactions and report changes to the RN
  • Follow therapeutic interventions outlined by the treatment team and provide information for development and revision
  • Employ crisis-intervention techniques, conduct MHT-led groups, and use facility-approved CPI techniques
  • Assist patients through discharge, guide in adjusting to life changes, and help with personal hygiene
  • Comply with policies for a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment, practicing universal precautions and responding to patient care priorities
