About The Position

The incumbent in this position will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public and co-workers. This role assists in providing basic and routine care for patients in an assigned area, under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, including documenting patient status. The technician follows policies and procedures, promotes teamwork, and manages supplies and equipment cost-effectively. After orientation, they will perform job-appropriate competencies, assist in organizing and completing therapeutic groups, maintain a competency notebook, participate in educational services, and complete mandatory education. They also contribute to the continuous Performance Improvement process and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Human Services-Mental Health or other behavioral science discipline.
  • Current enrollment in a 4-year degree program including but not limited to Social Work, Nursing, Recreational Therapy and Psychology.
  • Minimum of 1 year of mental health or related healthcare experience, for example, as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Ability to interact with psychiatric patients in various stages of illness.
  • Ability to participate in performance improvement activities.
  • CPR (AHA BLS Provider) required at hire.
  • CPI required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in providing basic and routine care for patients in an assigned area, under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel.
  • Documents patient's status in accordance to the program's policies.
  • Follows Policies and Procedures of the specific unit, Department of Nursing, and supports the hospital and department mission, goals and objectives.
  • Promotes team work with physicians, case managers, nurses and personnel of other departments.
  • Manages all supplies and equipment in a cost effective manner consistent with budgeting limits for the department.
  • Performs all skills in job appropriate competencies after orientation.
  • Assists in the organization and completion of therapeutic groups, based on the program schedule, under the supervision of nursing personnel.
  • Maintains his/her competency notebook and participates in any program educational services.
  • Maintains yearly updates of mandatory education.
  • Contributes to the continuous Performance Improvement process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
