About The Position

The Mental Health Technician provides direct care to patients with psychiatric disorders, helps ensure their safety and well-being, and supports a therapeutic milieu. The role assists with care and treatment for psychiatric and substance-use patients and works with patients, families, and the broader health care team. This is an onsite position at North Shore Medical Center, with a scheduled 32-hour workweek on the evening shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. It includes every-other-weekend and holiday work.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Successful completion of CPI training within 30 days of hire.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
Ability to operate within an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities successfully.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to work effectively with patients, health care team members, facility personnel, and families or supportive others.
Ability to listen attentively, understand others’ points, ask questions appropriately, and avoid interrupting at inappropriate times.

Nice To Haves

Related experience of 0–1 year preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with care and treatment of psychiatric, drug, and alcohol patients.
Advocate for patients who may be vulnerable or need additional support.
Provide parent and family counseling, including Parent Management Training and Family Systems interventions.
Follow guidelines for patients on special status, including suicide, sexual abuse, or AWOL precautions.
Provide accurate shift-to-shift reports and remain on the unit while the incoming shift is in report.
Think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.
Maintain professional boundaries in relationships with patients.
Complete and file required documentation in a timely manner.
