About The Position

The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health is seeking a Mental Health Technician to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role involves ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment, crisis intervention, and assisting patients with daily living activities. The technician must be flexible to work with various patient populations, including male and female, adolescents and adults, and dually diagnosed adults. The primary goal is to support the safety and well-being of patients and maintain a therapeutic milieu.

Requirements

  • High school level reading and writing skills.
  • Acceptable oral and written communication skills.
  • Legible handwriting skills.
  • Ability to maintain information as highly confidential.
  • Professional telephone etiquette and customer service skills by phone and face to face.
  • Skills in dealing courteously with the public and other staff within the organization.
  • Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations.
  • Ability to work and concentrate amidst distractions.
  • Ability to handle interruptions often and move from one task to another.
  • Flexibility and ability to handle differences of opinions.
  • Ability to assist in patient restraints and seclusions.
  • Ability to stop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, and grasp.
  • Ability to perceive the attributes of objects by touching.
  • Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word.
  • Hearing with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction.
  • Ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers.
  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a nursing assistant or patient care technician.
  • Familiarity with medical and psychological terminology.
  • A basic knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology.
  • Skills in prioritizing and managing time.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
  • Support the maintenance of a therapeutic milieu on the unit.
  • Conduct 15-minute rounds on patients per policy.
  • Participate in restraint and seclusion of patients when required.
  • Support facility service excellence standards.
  • Assist with patient hygiene, including baths and changing briefs when required.
  • Attend mandatory training.
  • Facilitate community groups to help maintain the therapeutic milieu.
