About The Position

The Mental Health Technician creates a calm, structured therapeutic environment for patients overnight. The role provides vigilant observation and support while patients rest, helps maintain continuity of care, and responds to admissions and urgent needs. The schedule is a night shift of three 12-hour shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., with every other weekend rotation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods and assist with lifts and transfers as needed.
• Empathy, consistency, and clear communication.

Nice To Haves

• Some college education.
• STNA or EMT experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform frequent safety rounds, observations, and assigned 1:1s; document behaviors and interventions.
• Lead or assist with groups, including coping skills, grounding, recreation, and activities of daily living support.
• Partner with registered nurses during crises using verbal de-escalation, redirection, and team response protocols.
• Support admissions and intakes, including belongings inventory, vital signs, and unit orientation.
• Maintain a therapeutic, tidy environment and uphold visitor policies.
• Provide vigilant overnight observation and timely documentation to ensure continuity of care.
• Manage after-hours admissions and urgent needs, and prepare a thorough handoff for the day team.
