Mental Health Technician 2 Behavioral Health ED Nights
About The Position
Inova Fairfax Hospital Emergency Department is hiring a Mental Health Technician 2 for the Adult Emergency Department, focused on the behavioral health population in a designated behavioral health area. This is a full-time night-shift position working three 12-hour shifts, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The technician provides individualized support with activities of daily living and helps patients, families, and visitors understand the unit and its rules. The role also supports technician education and compliance, serves as a resource and preceptor for new Mental Health Technicians, and works with unit leadership to maintain staff competencies and skills.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of experience as a Mental Health Technician 1 or Clinical Technician 1 at Inova Health System, and/or two years as a psychiatric technician at another facility.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon start.

Responsibilities
- Assist unit leadership with oversight of the unit’s Mental Health Technician education needs and compliance.
- Provide individualized patient support with activities of daily living, including bathing, feeding, bed making, vital-sign measurement, and intake/output measurement.
- Provide information to patients, families, and visitors, including orienting patients to the unit or program, explaining the rationale for rules or restrictions, and providing printed information.
- Serve as a resource and unit preceptor for new Mental Health Technicians.
- Work with unit leadership to ensure Mental Health Technicians maintain current competencies and skills.
