About The Position

University Behavioral Center, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), is a 112-bed psychiatric hospital that has provided care to children and adolescents in central Florida since 1989. The facility is located in Orlando near the University of Central Florida. The Mental Health Tech provides direct care to patients with psychiatric disorders to help ensure their safety and well-being. This is a per-diem position supporting Admissions.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of experience working in a psychiatric setting.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
CPR certification; may be acquired after hire.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the Admissions team with the safe intake, reception, and orientation of patients entering the facility.
Maintain awareness of patient safety and behavior while patients await assessment, admission, or transfer.
Conduct and document patient observations and safety checks in accordance with facility policies and assigned observation levels.
Support patient belongings procedures, including inventorying and securing potentially unsafe or prohibited items according to facility policy.
Assist with patient searches or safety screenings as permitted by policy, training, and applicable requirements.
Provide a calm, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients and families during the admissions process.
Use approved verbal de-escalation and crisis-prevention techniques when patients demonstrate agitation, anxiety, or escalating behaviors.
Promptly communicate changes in patient behavior, condition, or safety concerns to the appropriate nurse or clinical team member.
Assist with patient transport and escort from Admissions to inpatient units or other designated areas while maintaining appropriate safety precautions.
