About The Position

Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS) is a leading healthcare provider with a strong record of achievement. SandyPines Residential Treatment Center, a 149-bed facility in South Florida, serves children and adolescents aged 5 to 17. We are seeking a Mental Health Technician (MHT) to join our team. This role involves providing direct patient care and milieu management under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The MHT will interact with patients, model appropriate behavior, ensure a safe environment, lead therapeutic groups, conduct patient supervision, and participate in crisis intervention. The MHT will follow therapeutic interventions outlined by the treatment team and maintain awareness of each patient's individualized plan of care.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Must complete and maintain training Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) (aggression management, crisis intervention and restraint training)
  • Must pass competency exams within 90 days of hire
  • Must be able to prioritize workload, effectively multi-task and problem solve in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent listening, communication, prioritization and follow through skills with strong focus on providing high quality patient care
  • Continuous verbal and written communication, hearing ordinary conversation
  • Occasionally hearing high pitched or low-pitched sounds
  • Continuous firm/simple grasping and fine manipulating of both hands

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year of previous experience in a healthcare setting and/or previous behavioral health experience strongly preferred
  • Training may be obtained during new hire orientation
  • May be required to work overtime and flexible hours

Responsibilities

  • Milieu management and continuous patient care supervision
  • Interactions & role modeling to patients
  • Ensure a safe environment
  • Lead therapeutic MHT patient groups
  • Conduct Q15 rounds and one to one patient supervision
  • Participate in crisis intervention situations as needed
  • Follow the therapeutic interventions outlined by the treatment team for each patient
  • Maintain awareness of patient’s individualized plan of care including goals and interventions
