About The Position

Join the Medical team at the Texas Civil Commitment Center (TCCC) in Littlefield, Texas, where compassionate, clinically strong professionals support residents in a secure treatment setting. As a Mental Health Registered Nurse, you’ll partner with an interdisciplinary care team to provide skilled nursing care, support treatment planning, and help make a difference every day. Performs nursing duties in the mental health unit to prevent illness and promote of good mental health in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.

Requirements

  • Degree in nursing
  • Current, valid nursing RN license in the state of Texas or a compact state.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Must work within Texas state board of nursing scope of practice.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
  • Must successfully complete required pre-service and annual training requirements.
  • Must maintain security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments including psychosocial evaluation. Develop individual nursing care plans and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for patient care, revising plans as necessary.
  • Read, understand and implement psychiatrist’s orders
  • Facilitate communication with psychiatrist for medication and treatment orders, responding to emergencies as required.
  • Provide crisis intervention and management for patients experiencing acute disturbances.
  • Coordinate scheduling for mental health providers and psychiatrists.
  • Assist psychiatrist in patient examinations and treatment procedures
  • Administer medication in accordance with policies and procedures, documenting treatments comprehensively.
  • Educate individuals with mental illness on medication benefits and potential side effects, particularly psychotropic medications.
  • Continuously assess patient conditions, documenting observations related to mental status, physical health, and medication responses in electronic medical record.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in providing care for patients with various psychiatric conditions and behaviors, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Apply knowledge of psychiatric disorders in planning nursing care strategies.
  • Perform work on an on-call basis, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
