About The Position

Bayshore Medical Personnel is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Registered Nurse for a Part-Time contract opportunity in Esquimalt, BC, focusing on Military Health Services. This role offers a day shift schedule (Monday to Friday, no nights, no weekends, no on-call) and involves providing comprehensive mental health services to a unique patient population. Responsibilities include assessment, nursing diagnosis, care plan development and implementation, crisis intervention, and counseling. The nurse will conduct individual and group therapy sessions using techniques such as CBT, DVT, or motivational interviewing, and will be skilled in bio-psychosocial assessments and medication management for both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a recognized college or university.
  • A certificate in Mental Health Nursing or certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing from the Canadian Nurses Association (CAN) (for Registered Nurses).
  • A Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing or a Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing Degree from a recognized university (for Registered Psychiatric Nurses).
  • A Registered Nurse license from the provincial or territorial professional college or association in the province of practice.
  • A Registered Psychiatric Nurse practice permit/license from a province of practice.
  • A Certificate of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider or equivalent such as Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) Level C.
  • Annual recertification for BLS/CPR/AED is required.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Mental Health.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Mental Health services to clients in a primary health care setting.
  • Conduct assessment and nursing diagnosis.
  • Develop and implement care plans.
  • Perform crisis intervention.
  • Provide counseling and life skills programming.
  • Conduct counseling services in individual and/or group therapy sessions using CBT, DVT or motivational interview techniques.
  • Perform bio-psychosocial assessments.
  • Conduct medication management from inpatient and outpatient perspective.
