About The Position

Providence Health Care's Mental Health program is currently accepting applications for RNs and RPNs to join their teams. Potential opportunities include: Inpatient Psychiatry & Psychiatric Stabilization, Geriatric Psychiatry, Eating Disorders, Tertiary Neuropsychiatry, and Dementia Mental Health. Our RNs and RPNs are core members of our interdisciplinary care teams, working closely with other disciplines like Psychiatry, Social Work, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy to tackle the variety of treatment needs of the patient populations we serve. Requirements

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College Nurses and Midwives
  • One year recent experience in acute psychiatry or tertiary mental health, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
  • Ability to work as a member in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work.

Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive Patient Care: Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for patients/residents, addressing physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs, and modifies care plans based on patient progress.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Documentation: Reviews patient status, monitors progress, documents assessments and interventions, and reports changes in patient condition to designated staff, ensuring effective communication within the healthcare team.
  • Patient Education and Crisis Management: Identifies patient and family learning needs, provides educational materials, leads group sessions, and manages crisis and life-threatening situations through direct nursing interventions.
  • Team Support and Professional Development: Provides direction and guidance to other healthcare staff, participates in nursing orientation, shares clinical knowledge, engages in quality improvement activities, and supports nursing research to enhance practice.
  • Conduct thorough patient/resident assessments through chart reviews, observations, interviews, and collaboration with peers.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans based on evidence-based practices, prioritizing patient/resident needs.
  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, and PHC standards while providing high-quality nursing care.
  • Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust care plans as needed for optimal results.
  • Maintain accurate records of assessments, care plans, patient/resident status, and discharge plans using manual and computerized systems.
  • Identify and address patient/resident and family learning needs, providing education and referrals as necessary.
  • Provide direction to staff, promote teamwork, and share clinical knowledge to enhance patient care.
  • Support nursing research initiatives and contribute to the improvement of patient/resident care policies and procedures.
  • Advocate for patients/residents' rights and dignity, facilitate discharge plans, and collaborate with families and community resources.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the healthcare team.
