About The Position

Under general supervision of the Hays County Mental Health Court Administrator, the intern performs case work, administrative work, and community outreach to support the functions and success of the Mental Health Court. Individuals in this position serve at the pleasure of the current elected official. This position is for Fall 2026 Texas State students only.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Mental Health Court staff with reviewing referrals and identifying defendants with potential mental health, substance use, or intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Assists the Mental Health Court staff with educational presentations and community outreach.
  • Assists the Mental Health Court staff in attorney outreach and education.
  • Assists in preparing Mental Health Docket, Court Reminders, Certificates for Phase Graduation, and Attorney Transfer documents.
  • Case management and skills training with current court participants.
  • Assists in the screening and referral process.
  • Assists in tracking program evaluation, referrals and participant progress.
  • Researching and identifying potential grant opportunities.
  • Assists in administrative tasks such as preparing agendas and setting up meeting space and supplies.
  • Any additional tasks as needed.
