About The Position

RiverView Health, is a community owned, membership based non-profit organization that was formed in 1898 and continues to be the sole community hospital in Crookston, MN. RiverView Health operates a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital, RiverView Recovery Center; a chemical dependency outpatient treatment program, RiverView Home Care and five primary care and specialty clinics in the hospitals service area. The Mental Health Counselor will be responsible for a range of clinical services, including, but not limited to: facilitation of Group Therapy, facilitation of Individual Sessions, Crisis Management, Telemedicine, DWI/Drug Court Staffing/Participation, Family Education, timely completion of Time Ads (for monthly billing), timely completion of DHS required documentation and case management/treatment coordination. This counselor’s primary office will be in Thief River Falls and will share in professional responsibilities in the Thief River Falls office with other professional staff.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW), Counseling (MA, MS), or a related mental health field.
  • Current and valid license to practice in MN (e.g., LCSW, LMHC, LPC, PhD, PsyD) with no restrictions.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating group therapy sessions, preferably with the senior population.
  • Work with kindness and accountability to enhance the quality of life for our patients.
  • Strong understanding of the mental health issues commonly experienced by older adults (e.g., depression, anxiety, isolation, dementia-related challenges).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to ethical and professional standards.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years experience working with patient populations of substance use disorders and mental health conditions
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR), preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive substance use disorder assessments.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on client needs and clinical findings.
  • Provide group and individual counseling services utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with state and agency standards.
  • Collaborate with case managers, healthcare providers, mental health professionals, and family members to support integrated care.
  • Provide crisis intervention and coordinate referrals as needed.
  • Facilitate education and support groups on topics such as relapse prevention, coping skills, and recovery support.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Comply with confidentiality and ethical standards according to HIPAA and professional licensing requirements.
  • Engage in regular clinical supervision and performance evaluations.
