The Division of Child and Family Services is Recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor 1 underfilling a Mental Health Counselor 2 in Las Vegas, NV. The Mental Health Counselor 2 position at Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC) provides direct clinical services within a secure, 24-hour inpatient psychiatric facility serving up to 20 Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) adolescents with complex behavioral health needs, including active safety risk. Responsibilities include conducting risk and suicide assessments; completing required documentation and reporting related to safety incidents; evaluating and coordinating referrals for psychological testing, psychiatric evaluations, substance abuse treatment, and other specialized services; providing regular individual and family interventions; participating in admissions reviews; maintaining ongoing communication with treatment teams and external stakeholders; and providing weekly updates regarding youth progress. The position requires frequent crisis intervention, extensive documentation, treatment planning, collateral contacts with families and community partners, and coordination of care across multiple disciplines. Given the acuity of the population served and the regulatory requirements associated with inpatient psychiatric treatment, these responsibilities are time-intensive and often require flexibility beyond standard business hours to ensure patient safety, continuity of care, and compliance with licensing and accreditation standards.
