About The Position

The University of Arkansas is seeking a Mental Health Clinician for a 10-month position, running from August 1 through May 31 annually. This role is part of the CAPS Training Department and involves providing comprehensive mental health services to the university community. The position requires a commitment to being "remote essential," meaning clinicians must be prepared to offer telehealth services during emergencies or campus closures, including taking university-issued laptops home nightly and on weekends. This ensures continued access to mental healthcare for students even during unexpected disruptions. The role emphasizes teamwork, collegiality, and maintaining a harmonious working relationship with colleagues.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in social work or counseling.
  • Eligible to obtain provisional licensure in the relevant discipline in the state of Arkansas within 60 days of the start date, with the expectation of pursuing independent licensure in a timely manner (for Mental Health Clinician I).
  • State of Arkansas license for independent practice in social work or counseling (LCSW or LPC) (for Mental Health Clinician II).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work as part of a highly cohesive and interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well in crisis situations.
  • Ability to balance administrative tasks with clinical tasks.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution of higher education in social work or counselor education.
  • 3+ years of experience in the evaluation and treatment of individuals whose age and psychological development are similar to traditional and non-traditional college students.
  • Experience working within brief models of care.

Responsibilities

  • Providing individual, couple, and group counseling.
  • Offering emergency mental health services.
  • Consulting with the University community.
  • Conducting outreach presentations.
  • Providing clinical supervision of graduate students.
  • Engaging in clinical disposition activities.
  • Attending staff meetings.
  • Coordinating specific areas such as group therapy, outreach, training, embedded services, or eating disorder programs.
  • Completing clinical documentation.
  • Obtaining and maintaining licensure in the state of Arkansas in a relevant discipline.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the CAPS Director, Senior Associate Director, Associate Director, or Assistant Directors.
  • Taking university-issued laptops home nightly during the work week and each weekend to be prepared for telehealth services during potential campus closures.
