About The Position

The Mental Health Associate II provides a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment for an assigned patient experiencing confusion, suicidal ideation or another psychiatric condition requiring close supervision. The associate maintains direct observation of the patient and works in conjunction with the Registered Nurse assigned to the patient. This is a 0.9 FTE night-shift position with 12-hour shifts and rotating weekends and holidays at MultiCare Deaconess Hospital.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Current BLS certification.
Current Washington State Certified Nurse Assistant license.
Previous patient care experience.

Nice To Haves

Previous patient care experience in a behavioral health setting.

Responsibilities

Observe the assigned patient while maintaining a direct line of vision at all times, and immediately communicate unusual occurrences to the nurse responsible for the patient.
Help maintain a safe, hazard-free environment by observing and documenting patient behavior, conducting patient room searches, reporting unsafe conditions, implementing safety interventions, and providing appropriate emotional support.
Orient the patient and the patient's family to the facility and its policies and procedures.
Document patient care activities.
Immediately intervene when the patient attempts unsafe activities, such as climbing out of bed, ambulating without assistance, pulling at lines or tubes, or displaying aggressive behavior, and seek assistance as needed.
Change bed linens, tidy rooms, and empty trash as needed.
Provide direct patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse.
Maintain clean and orderly utility rooms.
