About The Position

Reporting to the Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) Program Supervisor, the Mental Health and Addictions Assistant (Assistant) will assist MHA staff with leading or supervising programs or group-work and providing additional support to clients when appropriate. The Assistant is responsible for supporting the efficient and consistent delivery of day-to-day administrative support within the department. The position ensures smooth operation and facilitation of MHA services by ensuring accurate and timely processing of highly sensitive information and assisting MHA clients and staff, in accordance with the department’s goals within the Government of Nunavut. The Assistant also provides transportation and escort services. This position is critical to the effective operation of MHA services.

Requirements

  • A high-school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience working in an office, health or mental health environment
  • Valid Nunavut driver’s license is an asset.
  • Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing client participation, tracking attendance, ordering supplies.
  • Greeting MHA clients while ensuring a friendly, low-stress environment.
  • Ensuring phones are answered and messages delivered in a professional, courteous and tactful manner.
  • Tracking and monitoring program data, such as attendance, referrals, and client statistics, to support evaluation process as directed by management.
  • Checking charts and documents prior to filing to ensure that they are filed or archived properly.
  • Logging and entering all leave, overtime and attendance documents.
