About The Position

Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff, serving over 27,000 students at Cal Poly Pomona. ASI provides opportunities for student engagement, employment, and a variety of programs and services including recreation, wellness, student union, student government, and childcare. The Bronco Recreation & Intramural Complex (BRIC) Member Services is the central hub for information regarding programs, events, and general member inquiries. This department manages memberships, registrations, and operates a Pro Shop. The Member Services Attendant, under the supervision of the ASI Customer Service Manager, will provide coverage for membership services, including front entry, retail, and point of sale operations. This role supports Cal Poly Pomona students, guests, and BRIC members by assisting with program registration, sales, facility tours, conflict management, and access control.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support and Administering Emergency Oxygen certification (Employment offer contingent on obtaining certification within 30 days of hire, training provided by ASI)
  • Outstanding customer service skills and related work experience
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain professional work conduct
  • Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively and work productively without close supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus community
  • Ability to operate a computer workstation using word processing, spreadsheet, and other computer applications
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check)
  • Must be at least 16 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Currently enrolled for at least 6.0 units (undergraduate) or 4.0 units (graduate)
  • International student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate)
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA (both Cal Poly Pomona and overall GPA) and be in good standing with the University

Nice To Haves

  • Cash handling experience, preferred
  • Proficiency using membership management or similar software, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high standard of customer service, including greeting patrons with a warm and welcoming demeanor upon entry and exit from the BRIC
  • Utilize membership management software to manage memberships, program registrations, point of sale, student public transit passes, and other related functions
  • Provide information about membership options, ASI general information, programs, and facility amenities, including informational tours of the BRIC
  • Maintain cash drawer and related responsibilities, including counting in/out, recording sales, and making change
  • Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries in a professional and timely manner
  • Maintain a clean and organized front desk area
  • Assist with ASI program and services implementation
  • Enforce rules and regulations regarding BRIC use
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to address member concerns and resolve issues effectively
  • Collaborate with other staff members to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the recreation center
  • Employ conflict management techniques to handle disputes or disagreements
  • Attend and participate in orientations and training
  • Perform other duties as assigned
