About The Position

Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff, serving the Cal Poly Pomona campus community. ASI provides opportunities for student engagement, employment, and a variety of programs and services. The Bronco Recreation & Intramural Complex (BRIC) Member Services is the central hub for information regarding programs, events, and general member inquiries. This role utilizes specialized software for membership and registration tracking and manages a Pro Shop. The Member Services Attendant, under the supervision of the ASI Customer Service Manager, provides coverage for membership services areas including front entry, retail, and point of sale operations. This position offers services to students, guests, and members of the BRIC, including program registration, sales, facility tours, conflict management, and access control.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support and Administering Emergency Oxygen certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire, training provided).
  • Cash handling experience (preferred).
  • Outstanding customer service skills and related work experience.
  • Proficiency using membership management or similar software (preferred).
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain professional work conduct.
  • Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively, and work productively without close supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus community.
  • Ability to operate a computer workstation using word processing, spreadsheet, and other applications.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check).
  • Must be a Cal Poly Pomona student, at least 16 years old, and legally eligible to work in the US.
  • Must be enrolled for at least 6.0 units (undergraduate) or 4.0 units (graduate) with a minimum 2.0 GPA.
  • International students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) or 6.0 units (graduate).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high standard of customer service, greeting patrons warmly.
  • Utilize membership management software for memberships, program registrations, point of sale, and transit passes.
  • Provide information on membership options, ASI services, programs, and facility amenities, including tours.
  • Manage cash drawer, including counting, recording sales, and making change.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries professionally.
  • Maintain a clean and organized front desk area.
  • Assist with ASI program and services implementation.
  • Enforce rules and regulations regarding BRIC use.
  • Provide emergency care and treatment until emergency medical services arrive.
  • Use problem-solving skills to address member concerns and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with staff to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Employ conflict management techniques.
  • Attend and participate in orientations and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
