Member of Technical Staff (iOS Engineer, Computer Growth)

Perplexity•San Francisco, CA
•$220,000 - $405,000

About The Position

Perplexity is hiring an iOS engineer for its Growth team, which builds product experiences that help people discover, adopt, and form lasting habits around its AI products. The role works across the mobile growth funnel—including installation, activation, onboarding, lifecycle messaging, conversion, retention, and in-app purchases—for Perplexity, Comet, and Computer on iOS. The engineer owns projects end to end, from identifying opportunities and designing solutions to implementation, experimentation, analysis, rollout, and outcome measurement. Work includes rebuilding onboarding through experiments, integrating purchase and paywall experiences with billing systems, creating effective notification experiences, and improving app store optimization and deep-linking. The team moves quickly and runs multiple experiments in parallel while accounting for mobile release cycles, app store review, and version fragmentation.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of professional mobile engineering experience shipping consumer apps at meaningful scale on iOS.
  • Strong native iOS skills, such as Swift, SwiftUI, or Objective-C, and willingness to work in other parts of the stack when needed.
  • Experience owning a full release cycle, including build and release tooling, phased rollouts, app store review, crash and regression monitoring, and safe rollbacks.
  • Ability to execute and deliver multiple experiments and product improvements in parallel, driving them to clear outcomes.
  • Familiarity with A/B testing and experimentation platforms, such as Eppo, Statsig, Optimizely, or in-house equivalents, particularly in versioned apps.
  • Comfort using data to make decisions, including pulling, segmenting, and interpreting funnel data.
  • Strong product judgment and ability to translate user behavior and growth opportunities into simple, effective technical solutions.
  • Self-motivated, with strong ownership instincts and the ability to propose experiments and drive improvements independently.
  • Genuine interest in and adoption of AI products, with willingness to learn quickly.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience on a growth or experimentation-heavy team.
  • Deep experience with in-app payments.
  • Experience with mobile attribution and measurement tools such as AppsFlyer, Adjust, or Branch, and with paid mobile acquisition.
  • App Store Optimization (ASO) experience, including store listing experiments and localized metadata.
  • Comfort working in backend or web stacks to unblock end-to-end work.
  • Experience at a fast-growing startup or on a high-ownership engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own iOS growth experiences across installation, activation, onboarding, lifecycle messaging, conversion, retention, and paid upgrades.
  • Lead experiments end to end, including hypothesis development, instrumentation, implementation, analysis, and rollout; build flag-driven and server-driven patterns that enable testing without waiting for an app release.
  • Own in-app purchase and paywall experiences, including billing integrations, subscription and credit purchase flows, entitlement correctness, and pricing and packaging experiments.
  • Build push and lifecycle notification experiences, including permission prompts, targeting, timing, deep links, and measurement of retention impact.
  • Partner with web and design engineers to make onboarding, upsells, and in-task prompts consistent across web, iOS, and Android.
  • Partner with the Growth team to improve app store performance and attribution.
  • Improve key metrics such as install-to-activation, D1/D7/D30 retention, notification opt-in and engagement, paid conversion, and habit formation through clean instrumentation and reliable experiment readouts.
  • Work with Product, Design, Data Science, Monetization, Marketing, and the core Mobile team to turn behavioral signals into durable product experiences.
