About The Position

The Melt Shop Operator is primarily responsible for maintaining and stocking furnace consumables, performing general housekeeping duties including 5S and cleaning, and assisting other furnace operators as needed. The role may also include collecting and running slag samples. Operators unload and stock supplies, use temperature and sampling devices, maintain furnace areas and equipment, record production data, and communicate with team members. The position requires working a rotating 12-hour shift that includes days, nights, and weekends, and working in demanding conditions such as cramped quarters, heights, and extreme temperatures.

Requirements

• Must pass an entrance exam.
• Desire to learn new roles and grow with the company.
• Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
• Ability to use simple specifications, dials, and gauges to regulate electricity and water flow.
• 1 to 3 years of industrial or manufacturing experience, including operating heavy mobile equipment.
• Flexibility to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders; reach, squat, balance, bend, crawl, and kneel; tolerate prolonged sitting, standing, or walking; and operate mobile equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in cramped quarters, at heights, and in extreme temperature conditions.

Responsibilities

• Unload trucks and stock supplies and consumables.
• Operate and stock temperature and sampling devices used to take temperatures, oxygen readings, and steel samples.
• Clean out slag pots or pits using shovels, water, and other means as needed.
• Assist with maintaining refractory by patching or gunning.
• Maintain the runner and tap hole.
• Build and add electrodes.
• Record data in production systems.
• Communicate with team members.
• Perform general housekeeping duties, including 5S and cleaning.
• Assist other furnace operators as needed.
• Collect and run slag samples as needed.
