About The Position

Elyria Foundry|Hodge Foundry is hiring a Melt Shop Operator Level III for its fast-paced, technically advanced foundry operation. The operator loads furnaces with scrap iron using an overhead crane, processes iron to specified temperatures, performs chemical analysis and adjustments, and prepares ladles with alloys for pouring. The role also involves monitoring and adjusting temperature controls, communicating iron-temperature requirements to the production team, collaborating to ensure production conformity, and repairing and maintaining ladles.

Training will take place across the first, second, and third shifts to learn all areas of the Melt Shop. After training, the operator will work third shift, starting at approximately 9 p.m. This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position. The work involves indoor and outdoor conditions in varying temperatures, including extreme heat, and regular physical activity and lifting.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of experience in a Melt Shop-type environment; required.
• Experience operating a heavy-load overhead crane and/or remote crane.
• Ability to drive mobile equipment as needed.
• Willingness and flexibility to train in all Melt Shop areas across all shifts.
• After training, ability to work third shift, starting at approximately 9 p.m.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses and maintenance, and ability to operate machines or processes using controls or direct physical activity.
• Experience inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify causes of errors or defects.
• Ability to work in and around extreme heat.
• Safety-oriented approach.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to handle, install, position, and move materials using hands and arms.
• Ability to see details at close and distant range, perceive depth, and see colors.
• Ability to perform physical activities requiring considerable use of arms and legs, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
• Ability to lift items up to 50 pounds consistently throughout the shift.

Responsibilities

• Operate and load furnaces with scrap iron using an overhead crane, bringing material to the specified processing temperature.
• Perform chemical analysis and make necessary adjustments to meet required specifications.
• Monitor and regulate temperature controls and heating time.
• Identify, measure, and add alloys to ladle iron in preparation for pouring.
• Observe and adjust controls to maintain temperature within specified limits.
• Communicate with the production team about the proper temperature of iron.
• Collaborate with the manufacturing team to ensure production conformity.
• Repair and maintain ladles used in the Melt Shop.
• Perform other duties as required.
