About The Position

The Assistant Manager - Melt Shop supports the safe, efficient, and consistent operation of the melt shop. The role helps achieve cost and tonnage objectives, develops production goals and capital requirements, directs day-to-day EAF operations, and works with supervisors and maintenance to maintain equipment. It also oversees production quality, training, inventories, housekeeping, and continuous improvement while contributing to the management team.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a Melt Shop environment, with detailed knowledge of all departments and operations.
• Strong management skills and ability to oversee shift supervisors and hourly employees in a non-union environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate up, down, and across the business.
• People-oriented team builder who works closely with the maintenance organization.
• Ability to work with other managers as part of the Management Team.
• Administrative ability to create and oversee budgets and monthly spending.
• Knowledge and understanding of OSHA requirements and general melting-industry safety best practices.
• Bachelor's degree required.

Responsibilities

• Participate in CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture.
• Ensure business plan objectives for cost and tonnage projections are met.
• Assist in developing short-term and long-term production goals and the capital requirements needed to meet them.
• Manage, schedule, and direct day-to-day EAF operations.
• Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained.
• Oversee production quality and assist the QC department in identifying root causes and eliminating issues.
• Work with supervisors to ensure equipment maintenance supports efficient and consistent melt shop operations.
• Develop and oversee training plans for operational roles and provide succession plans at all organizational levels.
• Oversee Melt Shop inventories, ensuring accuracy, eliminating obsolete items, increasing inventory turns, and maintaining adequate availability.
• Maintain a continuous-improvement environment and work with CMC counterparts to identify improvement opportunities.
• Create and oversee budgets and monthly spending.
