About The Position

The Medication Technician provides direct support to individuals participating in residential addiction recovery services. This role oversees the self-administration of medications, monitors medication effects, maintains accurate medication records and inventory, and supports a safe and recovery-oriented residential environment. The Medication Technician works closely with nursing and residential program staff to ensure medication safety and effective coordination of care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • CPR and First Aid certification required, or ability to obtain within the first month of employment
  • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of addiction, recovery, behavioral health principles, and strength-based, individualized approaches to treatment and recovery-oriented care.
  • Build effective professional relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries and using strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to challenging situations using effective crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
  • Organize and manage multiple responsibilities effectively in a fast-paced environment while accurately using computer systems for documentation and communication.
  • Collaborate proactively with multidisciplinary team members and consistently demonstrate professional conduct that reflects positively on the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience as a Medication Aide or Medication Technician
  • One (1) year of experience working with individuals in substance use disorder or addiction recovery settings

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support the self-administration of medications in accordance with agency policies and applicable regulations
  • Monitor and document medication effects, reporting concerns or changes to nursing staff as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate medication counts and medication inventory
  • Ensure medication carts remain organized, clean, and properly maintained, and assist with medication cart audits
  • Serve as a positive role model for clients, promoting recovery-focused behavior and healthy boundaries
  • Collaborate with nursing and residential program staff to support daily program operations
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned to support the residential treatment team
