About The Position

The Medication Access Technician ensures timely and efficient access to select medications by conducting benefits investigations, submitting prior authorizations, and supporting denial management. The role collaborates with pharmacy and clinic teams, patients, caregivers, external pharmacies, insurance providers, and copay assistance programs to resolve access issues and coordinate care. The technician gathers information and documents the medication access process in the electronic health record.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Registered or Certified Pharmacy Technician.
• Pharmacy technician certification or documented passing score on a certification exam (PTCB or ExCPT) before the start date.
• Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to problem solve and work independently.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate documentation.
• Strong accountability to ensure alignment with processes and patient needs.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a pharmacy area related to the position.
• Pharmacy or medical billing experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform benefits investigations and submit prior authorizations for select medications and clinics within the organization.
• Support prior authorization denial management, including appeals, patient assistance program applications, and claims review as needed.
• Assist clinic team members, patients, and caregivers with access to select medications.
• Work with external pharmacies and copay assistance programs as needed.
• Gather information necessary to support the medication access process.
• Document information clearly and appropriately in the electronic health record.
• Collaborate with pharmacy and clinic team members and external stakeholders, such as insurance providers, to coordinate communication and care.
