About The Position

Under the direction of supervisors, the Medical Technologist is responsible for the prompt and accurate performance of assigned work. This role involves performing analyses on blood and other body fluids for diagnosis and treatment of diseases while maintaining proficiency across all clinical departments of the laboratory.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
No previous experience required.
Demonstrates effective communication to maintain good rapport with hospital departments, medical staff, patients, fellow employees, and visitors.
Certified MT with ASCP, AMT, NCCLS, or equivalent certification.
Certified MLS with ASCP, AMT, NCCLS, or equivalent certification.

Responsibilities

Perform assigned duties accurately, efficiently, and according to established procedures.
Utilize proper techniques and equipment in performing duties.
Prepare specimens for processing, ensuring accurate identification, logging into the department, and entry of all required patient information.
Process and analyze specimens using manual or automated methods to determine qualitative or quantitative results for efficient reporting.
Ensure quality control criteria are met before releasing any reports and repeat procedures that appear out of control per departmental protocols.
Organize work to avoid confusion and potential errors while consistently reviewing results for accuracy and completeness.
Seek assistance from supervisors when faced with difficulties in identification, interpretation, or processing, especially with rare abnormal results.
Assist in training technical personnel by demonstrating techniques and reviewing work performance as directed by supervisors.
Participate in proficiency testing or quality assurance activities as instructed.
Maintain current knowledge of laboratory and hospital policies and procedures, as well as performance standards.
Exhibit continuous awareness and compliance with safety, infection control, and quality assurance procedures.
Document the release of patient information according to policy, including timely documentation.
Maintain departmental equipment and supplies; check daily performance and promptly communicate issues to management.
Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new procedures, products, or equipment.
Perform specimen collection duties, ensuring verification of patient identification prior to collection.
Perform related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Provide voluntary assistance to co-workers when patient care priorities and workload fluctuate.
