About The Position

This role supports and communicates laboratory initiatives and philosophies while being responsible for the collection, processing, and receiving of specimens to be analyzed across various departments of the clinical laboratory. The Medical Technologist evaluates and resolves issues related to specimen collection and processing for all age ranges and participates in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures in the laboratory.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (or Associate's Degree for grandfathered personnel).
• Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) from ASCP or an equivalent organization.
• New MT graduates must successfully pass the certification exam within six months of employment start date.

Responsibilities

• Collect, process, and receive specimens, including blood, urine, fecal, and body fluids, to ensure accurate analysis in all departments of the clinical laboratory.
• Evaluate and address problems associated with the collection and processing of biological specimens.
• Engage in the assessment of new laboratory techniques and procedures regarding personnel, equipment, cost-effectiveness, and the establishment of reference intervals.
• Compose and revise technical procedures to maintain protocol standards.
• Perform complex laboratory procedures, recognize deviations from expected results, and utilize scientific principles to analyze and rectify issues.
• Analyze quality control data, make judgments on results, and take necessary actions to uphold accuracy and precision.
• Respond to inquiries about test results, methodology, test specificity, sensitivity, and various factors that may influence test outcomes.
• Review instrument indicators and laboratory temperature monitors to ensure compliance with operational standards.
• Maintain self-competency in laboratory skills and practices.
