About The Position

The Laboratory Generalist plays a crucial role in supporting laboratory initiatives and procedures. This position includes responsibilities related to phlebotomy as well as various laboratory activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (or an Associate's degree for grandfathered personnel).
  • Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) by ASCP or an equivalent organization.
  • New medical technologist graduates must pass the certification exam within six months of the start date.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, process, and receive specimens (including blood, urine, fecal, and body fluids) for analysis across all clinical laboratory departments.
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot issues related to the collection and processing of biological specimens for individuals of all age ranges.
  • Participate in the assessment of new techniques and procedures in the laboratory concerning personnel, equipment, and cost implications.
  • Perform complex laboratory procedures, recognize deviations from expected results, and utilize scientific principles to analyze and rectify problems.
  • Analyze quality control data and make informed judgments to maintain accuracy and precision in test results.
  • Address inquiries regarding test results, methodologies, test specificity and sensitivity, as well as factors influencing test outcomes.
  • Review all instrument indicators and temperature monitors for relevant laboratory departments.
  • Maintain professional competency in laboratory skills through ongoing education and practice.
