About The Position
Under the direction of laboratory leadership, the Medical Technologist provides specialized testing and support for the laboratory section, working independently as appropriate. The role performs complex technical assignments requiring theoretical insight, interpretation, skill, judgment, and an understanding of laboratory science principles and methodologies. Responsibilities include instrument maintenance and standardization, daily quality control, and adherence to hospital and laboratory policies. The technologist communicates professionally with internal and external clients and reports to the assigned UR Labs location.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist per New York State upon hire.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze patient samples using current, moderately complex laboratory methods and instrumentation.
- Determine specimen integrity before analysis.
- Report patient sample analysis results using computer or instrument interface options.
- Perform scheduled or as-needed instrument preventive maintenance and method troubleshooting.
- Participate in developing and follow safety, quality control, and quality assurance protocols.
- Participate in training other technologists, technicians, and/or residents.
- Assist the supervisor with maintaining supply inventory and participate in special procedures.
- Assist the supervisor with writing and updating procedures as needed.
- Assume additional supervisory responsibilities when qualified and applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
