About The Position

Rivers Health is seeking a Per-diem MLT/MT in the Laboratory. This position will be responsible for obtaining specimens, performing analysis, and reporting test results within department standards and hospital policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in medical technology or related field plus eligibility for ASCP and/or associate degree in applied science or related field plus eligibility for certification by ASCP and WV License.
  • Must be able to perform vein and/or (capillary) punctures.
  • Must be able to read and understand laboratory instruction manuals.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to identify and address the special needs of the ages of patients including neonates, adolescents, pediatrics, and geriatrics and can effectively communicate with the patient.
  • Must be able see and understand test instruments and results, and have manual dexterity to handle test equipment, collect specimens and be able to communicate to the patient’s pertinent information concerning the collection of the specimen and test procedures.
  • Required to handle frequent physical, mental, and emotional demands.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years or greater of general staff tech experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain specimens from patients in a manner that supports the quest relations policy of the hospital.
  • Conducts all tests with departmental policy and procedures.
  • Observe and note test results, documenting and retesting any procedures that fall out of acceptable range.
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated volume of test during course of assignment in area.
  • Follows safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and all other hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Conducts instrument preventive maintenance as required by Departmental policies and procedures on all equipment, as directed by departmental section head.
  • Performs and documents all quality control as a routine part of general testing.
  • Performs proficiency testing as designed by section head in assigned area.
  • Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.
  • Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on quality improvement teams.
  • Other duties that may be assigned.
