About The Position

This role involves performing laboratory technical procedures, operating and troubleshooting analyzers, preparing and testing reagents, and maintaining quality control. The Medical Technologist Team Lead will also be responsible for staff guidance, including assigning tasks, training new hires, and reviewing work. Additionally, they will oversee equipment care, process improvement initiatives, and ensure accurate and timely reporting of patient test results in a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Licensed as Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Technician from NYSDOH
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or a related science
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers
  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory technical procedures according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Operate and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents and control
  • Perform and document maintenance and quality control procedures on analyzers
  • Identify and replenish testing supplies as necessary
  • Assist with phlebotomy and processing when needed
  • Answer phone calls, maintain logs/records, train employees, use computerized databases, and maintain written and verbal communications
  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Assign daily tasks, train new hires, and review the work of other technicians
  • Check test results, track quality data, and make sure the lab follows safety rules
  • Troubleshoot Instrumentation problems, Repair/Replace Minor Instrumentation difficulties, Perform Maintenance on all Instrumentation and call for Instrument Servicing when needed
  • Help write standard operating procedures (SOPs) and assist with inventory and ordering supplies
