About The Position

Olympic Medical Center is seeking a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join their team. This role involves providing accurate, timely, cost-effective, and efficient testing of patient specimen samples within the goals and objectives established by the departmental management team and hospital policies. The position is located on Washington State's beautiful North Olympic Peninsula, offering abundant recreational opportunities and a desirable Pacific Northwest lifestyle. The role is 0% FTE and is part of the UFCW 3000-Professional and Technical union. Shift differentials and premiums are offered for weekend, holiday, evening, and night shifts, as well as for standby, lead, per diem, certification, trainer, and student coordinator roles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or equivalent status (for MT).
  • Associate’s degree, graduate of an accredited program for MLT or equivalent status (for MLT).
  • Knowledge and skills related to laboratory computer information systems is desirable.
  • Knowledge of laboratory expertise in multiple departments.
  • Ability to perform complex analyses, with basic working knowledge of techniques, principles, instruments, and their interrelationships.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Skilled in interpersonal communications and ability to relate well to the public, pathologists, physicians, and hospital employees at all levels.
  • Board registered with one of the national registries associated with laboratory practice (ASCP, NCA, NRCC, AAM, etc.) within one year of hire.
  • Maintains state Healthcare Assistant license preferred.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks with precision and flexibility to provide accurate results within the minimum turnaround time established for the laboratory.
  • Ability to recognize problems, identifies cause, create alternatives and determine solutions.

  • Maintains state Healthcare Assistant license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate, timely, cost-effective, and efficient testing of patient specimen samples.
  • Work within the goals and objectives established by the departmental management team and hospital policies.
  • Conduct testing in accordance with the standards of accrediting agencies, ethical practices of the hospital, and prudent practices of safety and infection control.
  • Demonstrate ability to coordinate multiple tasks with precision and flexibility to provide accurate results within the minimum turnaround time established for the laboratory.
  • Recognize problems, identify causes, create alternatives, and determine solutions.
  • Supervise the work of others when required.
