UF Health is excited to announce the opening of our brand-new UF Health Emergency & Urgent Care - Intracoastal location in Jacksonville. We are seeking dedicated, compassionate healthcare professionals who are passionate about delivering exceptional patient care in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. This role performs a wide range of medical laboratory procedures requiring technical knowledge and skill. Operates complicated laboratory analyzers to provide critical data for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease. Makes independent judgment decisions in the reporting of normal and abnormal test results. Performs and analyzes quality control data. Evaluates/researches new techniques and/or equipment. Instructs students and employees. Interacts with nursing and health care practitioners. Provides excellent customer service.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology, or related field.
One (1) year working in a MLS NAACLS approved program OR one (1) year working as a Technologist in a hospital laboratory
Florida Technologist License in appropriate area(s)
Must be able to pass a color vision test or functional color assessment test administered by Employee Health. Technologist must inform Laboratory Administration if vision capabilities change to the extent the technologist can no longer perform test(s) accurately in work area.
Knowledge of laboratory techniques, tests and procedures.
Ability to perform procedures requiring judgment with minimal supervision.
Ability to recognize abnormal results or testing problems and discuss with Technologist II, Supervisor, Manager, Physician or Medical Director.
Ability to solve problems. Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to recognize and effect repairs of malfunctioning equipment.
Ability to provide instruction and communicate to medical, para-medical or lay individuals.
Ability to prioritize tasks and organize workflow.
Good decision-making skills. Detailed-oriented.
Must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional manner.

Responsibilities

Receive and accept specimens in the work area. Ensure samples are labeled per policy. Investigate mislabeled samples and reject per policy. Oversee the receipt, prioritizing and acceptance/rejection of specimens
Perform moderate to high complexity procedures in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, serology, immunohematology and molecular areas of the laboratory to provide data for the use in treatment diagnosis of disease.
Perform quality control testing and analyze data to ensure accurate test results. Prepare stains, reagents, media and solutions necessary for the performance of laboratory tests.
Operate complicated laboratory analyzers. Document all instrument checks, preventative maintenance, problems, replacement of parts and other repairs.
Review and make independent judgment decisions to report normal and abnormal test results.
Provide clinical instruction; assist in testing and evaluation of students. Train new employees.
Evaluate new instruments and techniques
May review turnaround times, panic values, incomplete lists and sample irregularities. May be required to make independent decisions, supervise staff and review test results of technical staff.
May assist in writing procedures, address quality issues and give input on the performance of staff.
Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory training. Adheres to dress code, core values, policies and procedures, time and attendance guidelines and confidentiality agreement.
As workload allows, assist Support staff with specimen receipt and/or transport of specimens to appropriate work areas.
All other duties as assigned by supervisor within job scope.
