Under the general direction of the Technical Supervisor, provides ancillary support for clinical activities by performance and appropriate interpretation of moderate and high complexity clinical laboratory tests as defined under CLIA ‘88. This Full Time Evening position, including weekends, is in the Microbiology Lab. The role involves performing and interpreting complex tests, acting as a resource for laboratory users, reviewing procedures, prioritizing samples, and ensuring accurate specimen identification and processing. The Medical Technologist I is responsible for maintaining instrument and equipment, performing quality control, resolving technical and non-technical problems, and documenting all activities accurately. This role also includes transcribing results into the LIS system, notifying appropriate personnel of critical values, and maintaining proficiency in LIS functions. Additionally, the position involves managing blood inventories (Blood Bank only), ensuring work completion by shift end, assisting other laboratory sections, participating in Quality Assurance/Improvement activities, and maintaining competency documentation. The role supports the education of students and new staff, participates in committees, and communicates professionally. Adherence to safety, infection control, HIPAA policies, and BMC’s values is essential. The position requires performing assignments with minimal direction, planning and prioritizing tasks, and maintaining open communication with leadership.
