About The Position
We are seeking a skilled Medical Surgical/Oncology Registered Nurse to provide quality patient care in a supportive, team-oriented environment, with particular emphasis on oncology patients receiving chemotherapy. The nurse will care for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of diagnoses, including stroke, hypertension, COPD, cellulitis, CHF, atrial fibrillation, and acute myocardial infarction. The role is on a family-oriented unit that values teamwork and supports its staff and travelers. The position is scheduled for 12-hour night shifts, with guaranteed hours of 48 per week. Nurses are expected to work every other weekend and holidays as needed. The night-shift nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6. The nurse may float to other MedSurg units as needed.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN).
- At least 2 years of experience in a medical-surgical or oncology setting.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current NIHSS certification.
- Ability to float to other MedSurg units as needed.
- Comfort reading and interpreting telemetry strips.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with telemetry monitoring is preferred but not mandatory.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to adult and geriatric patients with a range of medical diagnoses.
- Administer chemotherapy and manage care for oncology patients in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Monitor and titrate intravenous drips, including Lasix and Heparin, as necessary.
- Respond to patient needs and collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to support optimal outcomes.
- Assist with BiPAP and tracheostomy management according to established protocols.
- Participate in unit orientation and training for new staff and travelers.
- Float to other MedSurg units as needed.
- Work 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend, and holidays as needed.
