About The Position

This role supports plasma center operations, reporting to the Plasma Center Manager. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) is responsible for determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The position operates under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational matters and the Center Physician for medical issues. Familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations or a manufacturing environment is expected. The role also supports environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives as guided by BioLife Medical Affairs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, and acceptance requirements.
  • Perform physical examinations and blood testing, and review Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate and manage donor reactions according to SOPs.
  • Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing Center Physician's standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings, medical or technical guidance, and donor safety/eligibility issues.
  • Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER.
  • Provide guidance regarding employee incidents in accordance with EHS.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
  • Provide center-level support for environmental, health, and safety (EHS).
