About The Position

Spectrum Healthcare Resources is seeking a Medical Support Assistant to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. This role is more than a typical front-desk position; it involves being the first point of contact for patients receiving specialized care. The Medical Support Assistant will directly support medical research and provide comfort and clarity to patients and their families. This position is ideal for individuals who are compassionate, detail-oriented, and can thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment with a strong sense of purpose. The Patient Support Services Department (PSSD) is the primary point of contact at the NIH Clinical Center, responsible for customer service, patient registration, appointment coordination, and travel support. The Medical Support Assistant will guide patients and families through complex clinical research visits, ensuring accurate registration, smooth scheduling, clear communication, and a welcoming experience. This is a long-term, full-time position within a respected healthcare institution.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong clerical and administrative skills (scheduling, data entry, records management)
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to remain calm in high-volume, patient-facing environments
  • Effective written and verbal communication in English
