About The Position

The Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist carries out the credentialing function for providers seeking medical staff membership and clinical privileges with Hartford HealthCare. This is a 100% in-person role. The specialist processes applications in accordance with hospital-specific bylaws and regulatory standards, supports timely review and approval, maintains credentialing records, and communicates with applicants, medical staff leadership, regulatory agencies, and healthcare facilities. The role requires thorough knowledge of medical staff bylaws and the ability to communicate that knowledge.

Requirements

Associate’s degree required.
Three to five years of experience in a hospital administrative support role.
Willingness to obtain CPCS certification within one year.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Three or more years of experience with medical staff credentialing strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Process medical staff applications in accordance with hospital-specific bylaws and regulatory standards.
Prioritize applications in the queue to support timely processing and leadership approval.
Maintain the Medical Staff Credentialing database and interact with external databases.
Secure documents for primary source verification.
Produce and respond to general correspondence.
Prepare files for medical staff leadership review and identify application flags.
Process requests for temporary privileges and reappointment applications.
Track expirables, including licenses and registrations.
Notify departments and units of new providers.
Respond to verification inquiries concerning current or previous medical staff members.
Interact regularly with applicants, medical staff leadership, regulatory agencies, and healthcare facilities.
Maintain and communicate thorough knowledge of medical staff bylaws.
