About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a provider in the General Surgery Clinic. The LPN supports physicians and advanced practice providers by assisting with patient assessments, treatments, procedures, education, and coordination of care while promoting patient safety and excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • Current unrestricted Arkansas LPN license required.
  • LPN/BLS/CPR current.
  • Must be able to report to work fit for duty and free of any adverse effects of illegal drugs, medical marijuana, prescription medication, and/or alcohol.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with other individuals.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a LPN, scribe, medical assistant, or in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Medical terminology training or certification preferred.
  • Possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for clinic visits by obtaining vital signs, height, weight, allergies, medication reconciliation, and health history updates.
  • Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during examinations and minor office procedures.
  • Perform nursing procedures within the LPN scope of practice.
  • Administer medications and injections as ordered by the provider.
  • Perform wound care, dressing changes, catheter care, staple/suture removal, and specimen collection as ordered.
  • Collect laboratory specimens and prepare specimens for transport.
  • Perform point-of-care testing according to policy.
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms with appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Clean, disinfect, and restock rooms following infection prevention standards.
  • Coordinate patient flow to maintain efficient clinic operations.
  • Schedule diagnostic testing, surgeries, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
  • Communicate physician orders and test results as directed.
  • Answer patient phone calls and electronic messages, documenting appropriately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative patient education within scope of practice.
  • Reinforce provider instructions regarding medications, wound care, activity restrictions, and follow-up appointments.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly notify the Registered Nurse or provider.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering of clinic supplies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, competency training, and continuing education.
  • Float to other clinic areas as assigned to meet patient care needs.
