About The Position

Stonington Institute, a division of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), is seeking a full-time Medical Records Technician. Stonington Institute provides substance abuse treatment options for adults in Southeastern Connecticut, including medical detox, residential addictions treatment, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient treatment. The Medical Records Technician will audit, maintain, file, and store health information, ensuring compliance with company, local, state, and federal standards. This role also involves providing release of information to authorized requestors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Training or experience in general office duties.
  • Proficiently completes record audits.
  • Maintains the control and preservation of records at location site.
  • Monitors receipt of daily discharged records at location site.
  • Ensures all records are closed within 30 days of discharge.
  • Corresponds with any request for release of information to authorized persons, while ensuring all applicable confidentiality requirements within 30 days of receipt of ROI.
  • Responds to subpoenas in a timely and professional manner.
  • Adheres to and promotes HIPAA regulations and client confidentiality throughout the company.
  • Demonstrates compliance with Service Excellence standards at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of prior medical records experience preferred.
  • RHIT a definite plus.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiently completes record audits, checking for completeness, accuracy, and internal consistency.
  • Maintains control and preservation of records at the location site.
  • Coordinates with the Director on the annual purge of medical records.
  • Monitors the receipt of daily discharged records.
  • Provides timely reports on backlog statistics related to closed charts and record audits to the Director.
  • Ensures all records are closed within 30 days of discharge.
  • Handles requests for release of information to authorized persons within 30 days of receipt, ensuring confidentiality requirements are met and entering ROI's sent into a log.
  • Responds to subpoenas in a timely and professional manner.
  • Adheres to and promotes HIPAA regulations and client confidentiality.
  • Attends monthly department meetings.
  • Demonstrates compliance with Service Excellence standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.
