About The Position

Quality Staffing, Inc. is seeking an experienced Public Health Nursing Consultant/Medical Record Abstractor for a contract position with the Tennessee Department of Health (TN DOH) in Nashville, TN. This hybrid role involves reviewing and abstracting medical records for the Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) Surveillance Program. The position requires a strong understanding of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome and the ability to work independently while ensuring data accuracy and HIPAA compliance.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate (Associate or Bachelor) degree in a healthcare-related field.
  • Clinical experience in Neonatology/NICU required.
  • Candidates must be Tennessee residents.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a nursing program preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, REDCap, and SharePoint preferred.
  • Medical record abstraction experience preferred.
  • Knowledge/clinical experience with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining status of all infant medical record requests in REDCap.
  • Requesting, reviewing, and collating infant and maternal medical records from facilities using a developed algorithm.
  • Reviewing and abstracting assigned electronic medical records.
  • Conducting case verification on all records received on NAS diagnoses using medical records.
  • Performing data entry into REDCap for abstracted medical records.
  • Maintaining HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • Submitting service referrals to appropriate social services, when indicated.
  • Working closely with the NAS Surveillance Team to identify issues and ensure data processes are complete and accurate.
  • Maintaining partnerships with medical records office staff and providing feedback as it relates to process improvements.
  • Working independently, responsibly, and efficiently; problem-solving and communicating when needs are present.
  • Complete abstraction assignments on time with minimal supervision.
  • Attending weekly meetings with the TN BDSS team.
  • Maintaining ongoing education on developments in patient care, data management, birth defects, healthy pregnancy, and health equity.
  • Working closely with program epidemiologists to ensure accuracy of data collection.
  • Partnering with other FHW programs within Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needs (CYSHCN) on special projects and strategic planning.
