The opportunity is to launch a healthcare career as a Medical Receptionist/Medical Assistant Trainee Float, internally known as a Flex Lab Services Specialist/Member Support Specialist Trainee. No prior phlebotomy or medical assistant experience is required, as full training in phlebotomy and other clinical procedures will be provided. This role offers a chance to start a rewarding healthcare career, develop new skills, and make a direct impact on patient lives. As a trainee, you will provide exceptional care and support to patients, train in venipuncture and other clinical support services, and remove barriers to care. You will be the first point of contact for patients, manage the office space, and provide support as requested by leadership. Trainees will support multiple offices within a market, requiring strong teamwork, problem-solving skills, empathy, focus, and compassion. The role emphasizes tactful interpersonal skills, a culture of feedback and growth, and adaptability to patient and team needs.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in high-touch customer or patient-facing roles.
  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in computer technology such as typing, navigating the internet, and using multiple software systems simultaneously.
  • Experience working on collaborative, diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A proven ability to display confidence and instill trust with patients while delivering individualized, human-centered, customer-focused care.
  • A proven track record of persisting through change, consistently stepping up to take action on challenges, and learning quickly and effectively when faced with new situations or tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Use C-I-CARE framework in all patient interactions.
  • Ensure a fluid and positive in-office experience through patient intake, same-day schedule management, appropriate follow-up scheduling, strong knowledge of billing and insurance, monitoring patient feedback, and assisting with outreach.
  • Perform all front-of-house duties including check-in/check-out, insurance verification, printing/paperwork tasks, prepping tests, and tasking to service level expectations.
  • Contribute to team development through rounding, attending team huddles, participating in team problem-solving, and supporting in-office providers with ad hoc requests.
  • Master the technology suite including Slack, G-suite, Zoom, and the Electronic Medical Record System (1Life).
  • Perform opening and closing duties and daily office upkeep, including maintaining the appearance of patient and employee spaces, restocking supplies, and organization.
  • Successfully complete One Medical clinical training and state-required education/certifications within the first six months.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Provide best-in-class venipuncture services on a diverse patient population.
  • Perform and assist with extended scope duties such as non-blood specimen collection, EKGs/ECGs, vitals, ear lavages, vaccines, PPD tests, and swabs.
  • Maintain high standards of in-office care through proper specimen labeling, handling, processing, inventory upkeep, and tool sterilization.
  • Answer patient messages, follow up on lab cases, and assist providers and the virtual medical team with clerical duties, including medical record and consult review, billing inquiries, and DOH reporting.
