The Medical Assistant Trainee - Float role, internally known as a Flex Lab Services Specialist/Member Support Specialist Trainee, is an opportunity to launch a healthcare career at One Medical. No prior phlebotomy or medical assistant experience is required, as the company provides full training in phlebotomy and other clinical procedures. This role offers a chance to start a rewarding healthcare career, develop new skills, and make a direct impact on patient lives. Trainees will provide exceptional care and support to patients while training in venipuncture and other clinical support services. They are expected to remove barriers to care with a strong drive for service and human connection. The role also involves being the first point of contact for patients, maintaining the office space, and providing support as requested by management. Flex Lab Services Specialists/Member Support Specialists support multiple offices within a market. The ideal candidate is a strong team player with innovative problem-solving skills, empathy, focus, and compassion in all interactions. They should possess tactful interpersonal skills, thrive in a feedback-oriented culture, and be adaptable to patient and team needs.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in high-touch customer or patient-facing roles.
  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in computer technology such as typing, navigating the internet, and using multiple software systems simultaneously.
  • Experience working on collaborative, diverse, multi-disciplinary teams (additional experience with remote teams is a plus).
  • A proven ability to display confidence and instill trust with patients while delivering individualized, human-centered, customer-focused care.
  • A proven track record of persisting through change, consistently stepping up to take action on challenges, and learning quickly and effectively when faced with new situations or tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Use C-I-CARE framework in all patient interactions to ensure a fluid and positive in-office experience through patient intake, same-day schedule management, appropriate follow-up scheduling, strong knowledge of billing and insurance, monitoring patient feedback, and assisting with outreach.
  • Perform all front-of-house duties including check-in/check-out, insurance verification, printing/paperwork tasks, prepping tests, and tasking to service level expectations.
  • Contribute to team development through rounding, attending team huddles, participating in team problem-solving, and supporting in-office providers with ad hoc requests.
  • Master the technology suite including Slack, G-suite, Zoom, and the Electronic Medical Record System 1Life for team and patient interactions and daily work completion.
  • Perform opening and closing duties and daily office upkeep, including maintaining the appearance of patient and employee spaces, restocking supplies, and organization.
  • Successfully complete One Medical clinical training and state-required education/certifications within the first six months of employment (One Medical sponsored).
  • Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of hire, based on guidelines within a specific metropolitan statistical area (One Medical sponsored).
  • Provide best-in-class venipuncture services on a population ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics (upon successful completion of training).
  • Perform and assist with extended scope duties such as non-blood specimen collection, EKGs/ECGs, vitals, ear lavages, vaccines, PPD tests, and swabs (upon successful completion of training).
  • Maintain high standards of in-office care through proper specimen labeling, handling, processing, inventory upkeep, and tool sterilization (upon successful completion of training).
  • Care for members beyond the lab room by answering patient messages, following up on lab cases, and assisting providers and the virtual medical team with clerical duties such as medical record and consult review, billing inquiries, and DOH reporting (upon successful completion of training).
