About The Position

A Medical Program Administrator is needed in the North County Opioid Treatment Program, operated by Suffolk County Department of Health Services, Division of Health Services, Division of Community Mental Hygiene. This role plans, directs, and coordinates the medical aspects of the Opioid Treatment Clinics. The work schedule is Monday - Friday (6AM - 2PM), Tuesday-Saturday (6AM - 2PM) or Flexible between 6AM -2PM. The position is a Provisional Appointment, meaning it's a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. To become permanent, the employee must take the next examination for the position and be among the top three scoring candidates.

Requirements

  • Possession of a license to practice medicine in the State of New York.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a licensed physician in the field of assignment.
  • Experience in addiction medicine or psychiatry, including using medications for substance use disorders.

Nice To Haves

  • Board Eligibility in a recognized specialty such as Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, or Internal Medicine may be substituted for one (1) year of the experience in the field of assignment.
  • Board Certification in a recognized specialty such as Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, or Internal Medicine may be substituted for two (2) years of the experience in the field of assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Review medical history, examine patients, order tests, evaluate patients, and make diagnoses.
  • Discuss results, administer treatments, prescribe medications, and conduct follow-up exams.
  • Record information, diagnosis, prescription, treatments, and patient response to treatment.
  • Conduct routine check-ups to patients to assess their health condition and discover possible issues.
  • Give appropriate advice for healthy habits (diet, hygiene, etc.) and preventative actions to promote overall health.
  • Prescribe and interpret lab tests to obtain more information for underlying infections or abnormalities.
  • Prescribe medications or drugs and provide comprehensive instructions for administration.
  • Refer patients to medical specialists as appropriate.
  • Direct and supervise medical practices and procedures at the assigned Opioid Treatment Clinic.
  • Implement medical policy and maintain standards of performance.
  • Provide general clinical supervision and administrative direction for medical personnel at the assigned Opioid Treatment Clinic.
  • Report to the Medical Director.
