About The Position

The Medical Practice Associate (MPA) role is a comprehensive administrative position with adaptable workflows based on practice needs. This role involves greeting patients, ensuring they are seen by the provider promptly, answering phones, directing individuals, and coordinating the provider's schedule for appointments, referrals, and follow-ups. The MPA will also verify insurance, collect payments, and ensure accurate recording of transactions. Additionally, this role may involve obtaining prior authorizations for medications, durable medical equipment, procedures, and diagnostic tests for all patients, including workers' compensation and commercial payers, and may coordinate surgical scheduling. The MPA will collaborate with supervisors and peers to ensure patient and customer satisfaction, aiming to deliver a best-in-class experience across the site(s).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the front desk is neat, presentable, and equipped with all the necessary supplies such as pens, forms, and paper
  • Greet patients professionally both in person and on the phone
  • Facilitates correspondence with customers, patients, and colleagues to ensure satisfaction and patient care
  • Confirmation of provider name, appointment time, pre-visit e-forms and any screening questions.
  • Works collaboratively with other staff, managers, and resources
  • Schedule surgical procedures and explain patient financial responsibilities.
  • Answer and redirect phone calls to the appropriate department and take down messages.
  • Manage and coordinate provider schedules, referrals and follow up appointments
  • Obtain prior authorizations for all medications, durable medical equipment, and diagnostic test for all workers compensation and commercial payers.
  • Verify financial records and insurance, collect patient charges, and confirm patient identification upon arrival.
  • Pre-authorization of patient services and procedures via insurance.
  • Notify providers and support staff of patient arrivals.
  • Facilitation of referral process for additional specialty procedures and/or tests.
  • Creation, cancelation and reschedule of patient appointments.
  • Pre-authorization of patient services and procedures via insurance. (Tier dependent)
  • Coordination of surgical scheduling. (Tier dependent)
  • Ability to understand and apply workflows and job aids as indicated.
