About The Position

This position assists the Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) in the professional practice of clinical medical physics. General responsibilities of the Medical Physicist Assistant (MPA) include performing routine machine and patient specific quality assurance (QA), participating in acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment, and assaying radioactive sources. The MPA is supervised by the QMP, who assumes full responsibility for MPA work-product.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Physics, health physics, engineering, or related field.
  • One (1) or more years as an MPA
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess strong technical problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree in Physics with a knowledge of linear accelerators and external beam radiation treatments.

Responsibilities

  • Performs IMRT / Patient specific QA.
  • Performs in-vivo dosimetry measurements.
  • Performs periodic QA on all treatment and imaging devices within the department.
  • Performs periodic QA on treatment planning and related computer systems and software.
  • Performs assays of radioactive seeds for LDR brachytherapy.
  • Writes reports for all assigned QA activities.
  • Participates in the implementation and deployment of new QA methods and devices.
  • Participates in clinical workflow development.
  • Assists the QMP with the preparation of patient devices such as bolus and immobilization.
  • Participates in Process Improvement initiatives.
  • Assists the QMP with new technology testing.
  • Assists the QMP with new clinical service commissioning.
  • Participates in TG-100 analysis.
  • Cuts custom shielding blocks and assists in the 3D design and printing of treatment devices under the guidance of the QMP.
  • Measure electron cutout factors.
  • Assists the QMP with documentation and logistics (scheduling, resources) tasks for special procedures.
  • Maintains the inventory list, calibration schedule and maintenance schedule of department QA equipment.
  • Audits QA records.
  • Coordinates radiation safety inspection schedules.
  • Prepares documents and records for state and NRC inspections and Apex accreditation site visits.
  • Other duties as assigned by the QMP.
