About The Position

The Medical Physicist Assistant assists Medical Physicists with their duties in the photon and proton radiation therapy clinic. Shift work is expected. The Medical Physicist Assistant performs patient-specific radiation measurements and calculations, performs quality assurance tests of proton and photon beam characteristics and mechanical characteristics of therapy equipment under the supervision of a medical physicist, and participates in research and development projects in collaboration with Medical Physicists. The Medical Physicist Assistant maintains appropriate proficiency in the use of radiation treatment machines, radiation measuring equipment, treatment planning computers, and related software. The Medical Physicist Assistant assists with radiation surveys of treatment rooms as required by the clinic’s procedures and state and federal regulations, follows all medical physics quality assurance procedures and policies, and performs other duties as assigned. As required by the Supervisor, the Medical Physicist Assistant also participates in meetings, special task groups, and/or procedures in Radiation Oncology. The Medical Physicist Assistant must pass credentialing exams in each area of work after receiving training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; physical science preferred.

Responsibilities
