About The Position

The Montana Youth Challenge Academy (MYCA) is a residential academic intervention program for at-risk youth, located at the University of Montana Western in Dillon, MT. The Academy utilizes aspects of military training, such as team accountability, leadership, and physical fitness, to help youth build positive skills, self-confidence, and prepare for future success. MYCA provides a safe, healthy, and highly-structured environment where participants learn healthy life habits, coping skills for emotional adversity, time management, problem-solving, communication skills, self-motivation, goal setting, and personal accountability.

The Medication Pass Technician's primary role is to supervise cadets' self-administration of prescription and/or over-the-counter medications precisely as prescribed. This involves maintaining accurate data in the Medical Accountability Record and verifying cadet identity, dosage, and correct self-administration in all instances. Occasional support for other program operations may also be required.

Medication Pass services are provided on the MYCA site throughout the residential phase. The work carries inherent risks, including potential exposure to bodily fluids, contagious diseases, and infection, and may involve working with emotionally disturbed individuals. Medication Passers will work in a dynamic environment with 16-18-year-old at-risk youth and must use protective clothing or personal protective equipment as necessary.

Requirements

• Past training in or willingness to be trained in medication pass for self-administration protocols.
• Understanding of medication-related terminology and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate record keeping.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to engage with cadets and Academy staff in a polite, cooperative, and professional manner at all times.
• Must be a citizen of the United States of America.
• Must be able to pass background and driving record checks.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Montana driver’s license.
• Must have a good driving record.
• Must be of sound judgment and good character, as indicated by reference and background checks.
• Must pass a pre-employment and on-going, random drug screenings.
• Must have demonstrated the ability to work with, and engage in, diverse working environments within and outside of the Department of Military Affairs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Cadet's self-administration of prescription and/or over-the-counter medications in exact accordance with the terms of the prescription.
• Maintain accurate data related to medication self-administration in the Medical Accountability Record.
• Verify Cadet identity, dosage, and correct self-administration in 100% of instances.
• Occasionally perform other duties in support of ongoing program operations.
